Generates Immediate Industry Acceptance

0

Less than two weeks after unveiling the first purely Canadian powersports dealer trade show, the all-new Canadian Powersports Dealer Expo (CPDE) has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm for the event and outstanding and immediate acceptance by the industry.

CPDE spokesman and National Sales Manager John Hildebrandt had this to say: “Before unveiling the show and www.CPDE.ca we had solicited input from powersport wholesalers across Canada and the US. Initial indications were extremely positive but no one could have predicted this immediate of a response – we have over 50 booths committed in less than 14 days and many, many more interested contacts from around the world. There’s little doubt now our initial suspicion that the Powersports business in Canada has been grossly under serviced was completely accurate. We’ve had to secure more space from the Toronto Congress Centre as we anticipate an early sell out on the initial floorplan”.

Already large WD’s and aftermarket OEM’s have agreed to partner with CPDE to solicit Powersport dealers across Canada. Some large WD’s are looking at subsidizing air fares for booking dealers to entice them to attend this March 11th and 12th 2005.

On top of this, CPDE will be awarding to preregistered dealers attending the show the chance to win an all inclusive, full-on European vacation, a West Jet round trip anywhere in Canada and getaway vacation packages for two. Early last week CPDE announced a big screen TV will also be given away to a pre-registered dealer.

More exciting news involving dealer marketing seminars for dealers in attendance at the show and more great prizes will follow. Dealers are encouraged to contact info@CPDE.ca to be pre-credentialed and entered into these incredible draws right away.

For more information and floorplans for CPDE this March 11th and 12th at the Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Rod, Toronto, Ontario, Canada visit www.CPDE.ca or contact these Sales Representatives right away!

How to Forget About Work

0

Park an all-terrain truck next to a fleet of regular 4-wheelers and it’ll stick out like a sore thumb. Fact is, some hardcores are pretty skeptical about whether or not ATTs should even be included under the same umbrella as ATVs.

Once you spend a few days with Yamaha’s Rhino those opinions morph quickly. This unique off-road toy has a lot to offer and, at the very least, it widens the horizons for both fun and utility.

Yamaha broke new ground with the Rhino, performing what looks in hindsight like a blatantly obvious variation on an established concept.

Easy to say when you’re looking at the finished product; not so easy to dream up and execute successfully from scratch.

The Rhino designers incorporated fully independent suspension at all four corners along with long travel plushness and very serious power output from Yamaha’s own Grizzly 660cc single.

Indeed, more than just a salad bar of neat-o features, the Rhino is a magnificently executed symphony of power, ride and handling prowess. Sound corny? It does, but riding the Rhino, or better yet, living with it long term is a very convincing conversion experience.

Redline Goes Under

0

Few in the ATV industry have heard of Redline Snowmobiles. This upstart company made a noisy entry into the snowmobile manufacturing business about three years ago.

Included in the noise was a successful $10 million stock market IPO which appears to have evaporated in late August – leaving the company broke.

Total number of Redline snowmobiles produced? Less than 50. What’s interesting about Redline was this; They had made noises about entering the ATV business. Guess that won’t be happening any time soon.

Outlander Rumor

0

Rumors persist of a new Bombardier Outlander 500 HO. While we think this will ultimately occur, don’t look for this new model to arrive until spring 2005.

When the new BRP Inc lands this model we expect it to come in both one and two passenger variations.

Bombardier continues to enjoy success with their 2-up models across North America and Europe.

Uncorking the YF-Z

0

Yup, the YF-Z is a rocket right out of the box. However, like most good things, there’s always room for improvement. Yamaha went all out with the YF-Z in terms of stock performance and parts, yet even more could be done. So out come a few GYTR goodies straight from Yamaha.

The list of upgrades includes a high flow, slip-on exhaust silencer, optional header pipe, and a jet kit. This all adds up to a freer breathing engine and mega-big improvements in both horsepower and torque.

It won’t take more than one pull of the trigger to notice what a huge difference the GYTR upgrades make on the 450. It becomes clear this engine is very corked up in stock form. Good luck trying to shift fast enough though! The extra HP and torque cause such extreme wheel spin no human can shift up before the engine hits the rev limiter.

Keep in mind; the GYTR exhaust is louder than anything we’ve ever heard and will have your neighbor out with a shotgun in a matter of seconds. We strongly suggest you keep it on the track. For sure, no one will ever be able to catch you.

The Votes Are In!

Suzuki 450 in the Works… Maybe

0

We’ve heard from a very good source Suzuki will build a 4-wheeled variant of their not yet released 450cc RM Series motocross bike.

Suzuki has been relatively slow to respond to the 4-stroke surge in motorcycle motocross but it appears they have no intention of being slow to bring a 4-wheeled racing ATV using the motorcycle’s powerplant to the Pure Sport market.

It’s also strongly rumored the 2005 Quadsport Z400 will be available in a much more serious version this fall.

Look for aluminum bodied front piggy back reservoir shocks, a more serious rear damper and possibly motor enhancements to boost horsepower.

We’ve heard an updated swing arm and more aluminum pieces will be part of the package as well.

In short, there will be a more serious 400Z for the racing/Pure Sport enthusiast.

More Sport-Utes Coming from Honda and Yamaha?

0

With more Big Bore Sport-Utility models arriving almost weekly we’re wondering what market leader Honda and close-second place market share giant Yamaha might be up to.

Certainly Polaris has proved you can’t have too many models in this burgeoning segment.

With both Honda and Yamaha offering only one model each in the over 500cc category, we have to wonder if they will follow the current trend and up the ante with bigger models in the next year.

We think it’s reasonable to expect a bigger Grizzly and another Honda Rincon variant with more cubes.

Track Conversions a Big Hit

0

Seems the sale of ATV track conversion kits is on the rise. After using a 650 V-Twin Arctic Cat last winter with an AD Boivin conversion kit, we can certainly see why these kits are selling.

Our report on the kit was in the spring issue of All-Terrain Vehicle Magazine.

Another high quality, well engineered kit is available from Mattracks in Northern Minnesota.

They build track kits for all popular 4×4’s and even have kits for full size 4×4 pick-ups – really!

New Ranger Offers 700 EFI

0

In what is clearly a move to dominate the ATT (All Terrain Truck) market Polaris unveiled the most outrageous Ranger yet for 2005.

The Polaris Ranger 4×4 lineup has been re-engineered for 2005 to include a new IRS rear suspension, longer travel front suspension, a lowered engine mount for a lower CG, new bodywork and improved attachment possibilities with a variation of the lock and load system used on ‘05 Sportsman ATVs.

So what’s so outrageous about all this? Their flagship 4×4 Ranger will be powered by a full-on Sportsman 700 EFI twin! Like, wow!

The new IRS chassis transforms the Ranger into what feels like an off-road racing buggy. Huge bumps – even jumps can be covered with the Ranger ATT at insane speeds.

Just in case you would like to limit those insane speeds, Polaris has developed a special electronic ignition key which will limit the top speed of the Ranger.

This is for job site vehicles and vehicles being driven by inexperienced pilots.

It’s a great idea and one we’re sure will be copied by other OEMs.
