YAMAHA YFZ 450
Closed course dirt riders were panting for ATVs like the YFZ 450, and when it arrived, Yamaha rolled them out of showrooms like Duncan Donuts.
The 450 was immediately competitive on race tracks and there was instantly a huge menu of aftermarket products specifically designed for it.
Yamaha got on the bandwagon and its accessory department rolled out all kinds of GYTR stuff that would custom tailor your YFZ exactly the way you wanted it.
The 450 was light, its engine made incredible power and was actually rideable on trails (a later version with a wide ratio tranny was introduced to satisfy the enduro-style riders who liked the 450’s nimble handling and aerobic performance.
This may still be the largest selling ride of its ilk and it deserves kudos for its long-term goodness.
